Mercedes took a 1st, 2nd and 3rd with this car at the French Grand Prix in 1914, its engine capable of a stunning 3500rpm. Afterwards they brought it to Great Britain for publicity purposes, but when war broke out the Brits confiscated it, and the engine inspired the Rolls Royce Hawk aero engine. Ferrarri 166 MM Barchetta. A barchetta is actually a term for any two seat car without a roof, but you do wonder whether one like this might just have been the inspiration for Rush’s classic track “Red Barchetta”. This car won Le Mans in 1949 when Luigi Chinetti drove it for 23 of the 24 hours!
